Baptism: A Death and A New Birth

INTRODUCTION
- This lesson is designed to answer the questions, “What is baptism all about?” and “Do I need to baptized to receive forgiveness of my sins?”
- We will also intend to answer the question, “When should I be baptized?”
BAPTISM IS A DEATH
- Sin condemns/separates us from God
- Ephesians 5:5-7
- Romans 3:21-24
- “Dead man walking”
- Baptism puts our sinful life to death
- Romans 6:1-7
- The recognition of Christ’s death for us is seen when we submit to being baptized (buried) just like Christ was buried.
BAPTISM IS A NEW BIRTH
- Just as Christ was raised from the dead; we too may have a new life!
- Romans 6:4, 8-10.
- Forgiveness takes place in our baptism.
- Acts 2:38
- Acts 22:14-16
- Born into Christ (Galatians 3:26-27)
- It is significant that God raises us up from baptism as a new creation. If not new, we are still condemned as a result of sin. (2 Cor.5:17)
BAPTISM TRUTHS
- The act of baptism does not save, Christ does. (Ephesians 2:1-10; Colossians 2:9-12)
- Baptism is a demonstration of our acceptance and submission to Christ as Redeemer and Lord. (Romans 6:1-5)
- Baptism is the point at which we can be confident of God’s forgiveness. (1 Peter 3:18-22)
- In the New Testament, baptism was performed the same day that someone surrender3d to Christ. (Acts 8:36; 16:33)
- Baptism was an immersion. That is what the word means. Sprinkling was introduced as a matter of convenience. (Romans 6:1-7; Colossians 2:9-)
- Baptism is a source of unity among believers. (Ephesians 4:3-6)
- Baptism is only for those who are old enough to understand and believe. (Mark 16:15-16) Infant baptism is not possible because the one being baptized must surrender their will to the will of God.
CONCLUSION
Do you believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God? Are you willing to die to your former way of life and live a new life in Christ? Take the step today and accept the forgiveness that comes in the blood of Jesus.
